26. Crackmoor Farm

Greg and Jenny Kellaway, who run Crackmor Farm a Dorset Council Farm on the Somerset – Dorset border, have set out to make it as sustainable as possible, with a 140 strong milking herd of Fresian/Holstein cattle as well as Aberdeen Angus and enjoy the challenges of organic farming.

Situated at Oborne, near Sherborne, the farm aims to grow as much of its own feed as possible, including cereals and root crops for winter feed.

In the summer months, the Kellaways add to its interests with a Caravan Club certified holiday parking site and an Amazing Maze made from maize, open during the school summer holidays, which is an increasingly popular visitor attraction for local people as well as tourists.

Greg enjoys taking the children on rides around the farm and uses props to help explain the fundamentals of farming. Says Greg Kellaway: “We are still serious farmers and we hope that if people stop to see some of our additional attractions, they will also go away with a greater understanding and appreciation of food, farming and country life.”
