Coombe Farms
Other Milk Pool Farms
Sitting astride the boundary line separating Dorset and Devon, in a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sadborow Farm is as much a destination for ramblers, ornithologists, environmentalists and historians as it is a dairy farm.
It’s 400 acres offer splendid views that can reach as far as the Dorset coast and were once the site of a warning beacon, lit as part of a line to warn the Admiralty in London of the approach of ‘the Armada. Today the land is crossed by three notable walking trails; The Monarch’s Way, The Liberty Trail and The Ridgeway and is also home to a rich variety of wildlife, from rare red kites to colourful kingfishers, sika and roe deer to stoats and weasels.
Once owned by the monks of nearby Forde Abbey, the land includes a number of historical clues to its past, including a listed mediaeval dovecot, a carp pond and a stone walled rabbit enclosure.
Farmer Russell Gambier is as proud of its heritage and wildlife as he is of the organic cattle herd that is now it main purpose and says; “We can trace back the history of the land here for 1000 years, so hope that anyone visiting the farm to enjoy one of the walks takes pleasure knowing that they are treading pathways and fields that have witnessed many notable events from British history and sense the peace and tranquillity of the countryside while appreciating the abundance of native flora and fauna”
