Coombe Farms
Other Milk Pool Farms
At 1000 hectares, Dillington Farms, is part of a large, traditional estate, managed by Chris Wilson.
Its land surrounds Dillington House, a building that dates back to the 16th century and is now one of the West Country’s foremost educational and arts centres, used for weddings, conferences and social events as well as educational courses.
The farm, near Illminster, is home to Dillington’s 180 dairy cows and a further 50 heifers, and each year it also produces mixed crops of wheat, oats and potatoes. As well as growing its own winter feed, Dillington now also produces crops for use as fodder by other organic farms supplying Coombe Farm with milk, which ensures traceability and also contributes to local sustainability.
Conversion to an organic dairy unit began in 2004, when the management team decided that there are lots of advantages in being part of a growing group of local farmers with strong links to Waitrose.
