Though organic farming is by its very nature a more natural way to produce food, it is still a complex business, requiring a wide variety of skills and knowledge, as well as detailed awareness of ever-changing legislation.

We help the people who work with us, and other farmers who supply us develop their expertise and learning by holding and planning regular courses that cover subjects ranging from herd health planning to breeding, organic compliance and feeding to illness prevention.

Some of these are organised by ourselves, others with outside organisations such as the Elm Farm Research  Centre which is an independent body (their business is to develop and support sustainable land-use, agriculture and food systems,  which build on organic principles to ensure the health and well-being of soil, plant, animal, man and the environment)

Our scale means that we can provide technical facilities and support which would not be economic or feasible for smaller farms to organise.

These courses combine a mixture of ‘classroom’ and hands-on experience. They are developed to ensure that everyone working at, or for Coombe Farm, has access to lifelong learning that will benefit themselves, the environment in which they work and the animals they care for.

We believe that they also help to make the Coombe Farm approach to farming more satisfying, fulfilling and better for all concerned, be they the animals we work with, the customers who buy from us or the consumers who enjoy the milk and fruit products that we produce.
