Organic farming is a purely natural form of agriculture. Farms adopting it subscribe to the highest levels of animal welfare and aim to grow their crops without resorting to synthetic sprays such as fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. They believe that this produces better, more natural food, which is free of chemical residues and is often nutritionally superior to non organic products.

Coombe Farm’s experience has shown that working organically also leads to a much improved environment for wildlife, with fields that are free of synthetic chemicals supporting a richer cross-section of wild animal, bird and insect life.
For a farm to call itself organic it has to be regularly checked, or accredited, by one of the independent certification bodies which are licensed by the Government.
The largest of these is The Soil Association, www.soilassociation.org which is based in Bristol, and is the charity which regularly checks all of Coombe Farm properties. Their visits are an independent assurance that the milk produced and processed by Coombe Farm meets the best possible organic standards.
